FAQ
Short answers to the questions we hear most. For the deeper detail, follow the links.
How does GeoSync Pro pick a currency for a visitor?
- Country lookup: Detects the guest's country from their IP via
ip-api.com. - Mapping evaluation: Matches the country to your configured country → currency mapping.
- Fallback: Uses your Default Currency if unmapped or undetectable.
Does it change the currency for logged-in customers?
No. Logged-in users are never overridden — they always see their own profile currency. Only guest (non-logged-in) visitors are localised.
What is the "EU rule"?
Instead of adding 27 separate mappings, you can add a single row with the country code EU to map all 27 EU member states to one currency (usually EUR). It's a shortcut that keeps your mappings tidy. See Configuration.
Do I need currencies set up in WHMCS first?
Yes. Mapped currencies must be created and active in WHMCS:
- Configure currencies: Enable them under Setup → Payments → Currencies.
- Missing currencies: If a mapped currency is inactive or missing, GeoSync Pro uses your default currency.
- Reference table: View active currencies directly in the Currency tab.
Is any personal data or IP address stored?
No. Analytics operate with strict privacy standards:
- No personal data: GeoSync Pro never stores IP addresses, user IDs, or identifiable details.
- Aggregated counts: Stores only anonymous daily totals for country → currency localisations.
- IP lookups: Public IPs are queried against
ip-api.comsolely for country identification.
See Analytics.
Why is my dashboard empty?
Fresh installations show zero metrics until new traffic arrives:
- Traffic scope: Counts only guest visits on public IPs while the feature is enabled.
- Exclusions: Admin sessions and private/localhost IPs are ignored.
- Historical data: Past traffic before installation is not backfilled.
Test from an incognito window on a public network. See Troubleshooting.
Does it slow down my site?
No. GeoSync Pro is optimized for performance:
- Session caching: Caches country detection for ~1 hour per visitor session.
- Local license validation: Background checks use cached results, preventing page delays or checkout latency.
What happens if my license lapses?
Currency localisation pauses until the license is renewed, while WHMCS storefront and checkout continue operating normally:
- Leased: Localisation halts when expired; resumes immediately upon renewal.
- Lifetime: Perpetual license keeps localising indefinitely; only in-app updates require active Support & Updates.
See Licensing.
Can I hide the currency switcher?
Yes. Enable Hide Currency Switcher under Currency to hide the dropdown and registration-page currency selector for guests on Six, Twenty-One, and Nexus templates. Third-party themes may require toggling theme-level switcher settings.
Does it work with my theme?
- Detection & switching: Compatible with all WHMCS templates and order forms.
- Hide switcher toggle: Targets built-in templates (Six, Twenty-One, Nexus).
- Third-party themes: For themes like Lagom, disable currency switchers in theme settings if desired.
How do updates and backups work?
Update in one click via Settings → Update Status → Check for Updates → Update Now:
- Automatic backup: Creates a full file and database snapshot prior to updating.
- Failure recovery: Auto-restores the pre-update backup if an installation fails.
- Database archive: Retains a downloadable database backup after successful updates.
See Updating and Backup and restore.
What if a visitor's country can't be detected?
GeoSync Pro simply uses your Default Currency. This also happens for private or localhost IP addresses (like 127.0.0.1), which can't be geolocated — so the visitor still sees valid pricing.
Why doesn't localisation work when I test it myself?
Almost always because you're logged in, on a private/localhost IP, or the feature/license isn't active. Test in a logged-out or incognito window from a public IP. Walk through the checks in Troubleshooting.
Where can I look up an exact message I saw?
The Error reference lists every admin message verbatim — activation, sync, save and update — with what each means and what to do.
Can I remove all of GeoSync Pro's data later?
Yes. Deactivating keeps your database tables so a reactivate is lossless. To remove everything, see Uninstalling.
